Each summer, hurricanes and typhoons threaten the lives in the US and in Korea. People are not happy about their visit. However, in Mongolia, summer rain is a welcome sign. The strong typhoon that hit Taiwan a few weeks ago came all the way to Mongolia and many people lost their lives and hundreds were left without homes. But, heavy rain in Mongolia also brings a good news of better grass for livestocks. Mongolians believe that a rain brings a welcoming friend.
Jason and Ruth spent 10 days in July at a Mongolian youth camp. We taught English and Korean to 15 children. We spent the time with the children, eating, playing, and just hanging around all day long. We discovered a renewed opportunity to work with youth and young children in Mongolia.

A house behind us was our home for 10 days. It was built during the Socialism time for
summer retreats.

A youth camp does not have special facilities. The building below is a cafeteria.

Ruth is teaching English to the children. There are not many hands-on materials available
for Mongolian children, so, the educational DVD’s and exercise books donated by Dong San
Alliance Church was a big hit.

One of the programs during the camp was “10 km walkathon”. It started to rain at the beginning of the walk and by the end, it was pouring! But, everyone finished the race and even Angel walked all the way in the rain and thunder!

A short break time.

Angel is eating a Mongolian snack called “Bing”.

A picture time with our students.

Our return trip to Ulaanbaatar with two Mongolian children. They are orphans adopted by a
Mongolian family.
